SCC Meeting Notes – 11/11/24

Digital Citizenship Program

Met with staff to go over program and plan
Digital Citizenship Week with students to raise awareness
Review program and plan with SCC for input/approval
Five components:
- Inclusive
- Alert
- Informed
- Engaged
- Balanced
Once a month in morning meeting, classrooms have a digital citizenship lesson/discussion
ContentKeeper—Content filtering system that can be set to different levels to be set to the appropriate age range. Parents can select stricter filtering for their students if they choose.
LanSchool—can see and manage Chromebooks, including anything students are looking at or writing, etc. Teachers can remotely lock down Chromebooks, block content, etc.
Technology Connect Portal: tcp.canyonsdistrict.org is where parents can set their children’s filters. Parents can also view children’s activity on Chromebooks
Had a great discussion with faculty—they are continually re-trained and are on board for safe and responsible digital usage
The hope is that these skills transfer to their personal policy usage as well

Personal devices are to be put away during the school day—for use before or after school only
Devices brought at their own risk
If parents need to communicate with student, go through main office or Parent Square

Referrals are trending down—yay!
Attendance is mostly green (on track)—yay!
Review of current state of Land Trust, TSSA, Cell Tower funds
October safety drill: secure
Parents are enjoying Instagram content to start more conversations at home
STEAM room—after-school piece coming back? STEAM teacher is in the room daily and loves the space. District still providing input on what roles will be hired and determination for after-school programs (e.g., Maker Space)
PlayWorks coach is currently a long-term sub; possibly will become permanent
Recess aide has been hired!
