Hello Bella Vista Families,
This message is to communicate the direction of Bella Vista Elementary following yesterday’s statements by Utah Governor Gary Herbert and Utah education officials, as local governments and schools respond to concerns about COVID-19, the novel coronavirus.
As it has been previously communicated to parents, local school districts, including Canyons, take their cues in matters of public health from the Salt Lake County Health Department. While health authorities are encouraging those who are ill to remain home, they have not recommended the closure of schools. As such, Canyons schools will remain open until further notice. That said, we recognize and respect the rights of parents and guardians to make decisions that are in the best interest of their children and families. Our faculty and staff will continue to work with students on missing homework and other assignments if they miss class because of illness or for other personal issues.
In regards to large events, we will honor the state’s directive to not hold mass gatherings over 100 people (not counting school attendance, just extra activities) for at least the next two weeks. This will impact our 4th grade students in several ways: the play and the field trip both scheduled for the end of this month, and possibly the field trip planned for April 15.
Because we are a small school, we never have more than 100 people in our cafeteria for lunch at the same time. Our lunch schedule will remain as is.
Due to the ongoing nature of this situation I will be in continuous communication with you in regards to future events. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the school at 801-826-7825.
Thank you for your support and patience as we work to prioritize the health of your children and their well-being. Don’t forget to wash your hands!
Take care,
Sandra Dahl-Houlihan
