TSSP and LAND Trust Plans
- TSSP will be worked on by school and goals/direction shared with SCC
- SCC will write and develop LAND Trust plan
- Final report for plan due to School Performance by end of January
- Walking tour from district representative—teachers emphasized desire for Mrs. Winder to stay as principal at Bella Vista
- Some unclear reporting on TSSP—received a report that says we underspent, but data does not seem accurate. Looking into finding the correct numbers.
Review of Survey Data
- At or above elementary schools/district in almost all areas
- The only area we were more on par with the district is staff respect toward children, but seems to be an outlier with one bad experience
Behavior/Absenteeism
- Chronic absenteeism has gotten WAY better. Yay!
- Year over year we’ve made a huge improvement in our attendance numbers
- Bigger issue is early checkouts/tardies
- Doing a January weekly attendance incentive. Very generous policy that makes it possible for kids to earn it.
Budgets and Safety Drill
- Land Trust: $20,141.23
- TSSA: $49,920.57
- Cell Tower: $35,921.45
- November drill: bomb threat; December drill: hold
- January will be a fire drill—will watch for a warm enough day to have it
- Looking into a massage chair setup as appreciation for teachers/rest and restore opportunity
Canyoneering Night/Informational Nights
- They would like a photo of the PTA/SCC
- Opportunity for community to come ask questions and learn about the district
- January 23rd and Eastmont
- Hosting a pre-k and kindergarten informational night at Bella Vista 1/14
- Will highlight that we’re a National Blue Ribbon school
- We’re currently highlighted in the CSD newsletter, have been highlighted in the Cottonwood Heights newsletter
- Looking into possibly becoming an AVID school. Eastmont, Jordan, Glacier Hills, and Sandy are currently AVID schools. District is also considering rolling it out district-wide. Would work in concert with our STEM focus
- Social media is a great place to be pushing awareness and promotion for the school—looking into some paid social ads via the district
Teacher of the Year Committee
- Need one member of SCC on the committee—typically the chair (Sonia)
- Nominations are done online via the district link
- Panel will come together to decide from among the nominations
Community Input
- Weekly newsletter might be beneficial looking forward a week/next couple weeks so that parents can plan and prepare for what’s ahead. It seems some teachers have different methods, some review/recap the past week and some highlight what will be coming up. Pros and cons to both.
- Question about how the split classes are working out. 1/2nd transitions seem to be going well—teachers probably don’t want to do it forever but it’s working okay. There are some benefits but it feels tough.
- The board has talked about the small schools and are being creative in opening up FTE. They are not going to make us lose a teacher, but still up in the air for next year.
