- In May school board meeting, they voted to proceed with boundary and enrollment study
- Keeping everything on the table—looking at boundaries, looking into bonds for rebuilding schools, etc.
- There will be a website shared with families and community members to keep everything transparent: canyonsdistrict.org/boundarystudy
- Study is looking at eight schools
- Parents that have students within the boundaries of any of the eight schools will be notified
- Looking at schools with <375 student enrollment
- Hoping to narrow it down by the fall so we have a better look at which schools are at risk
- Parent input: We would like a longer lead time after decision is made (in other words, not have change go into effect until at least 2027–28 school year)
- Glacier Hills example: two existing schools merged into one new school
- Possibility of having Bella Vista (or other schools) be a STEM school or other specialty school
- Budget for building a new school would open up around 2029
- Factors—birthrate going down, home prices are so expensive
- Goal for future schools is to have at least 3 teachers per grade
- Helpful for SCC members and parents to show up and speak up at board meetings, reach out to board members, etc.
- Sign up on district website to get board meeting agendas, summaries, etc.
- 2025-2026 School Community Councils are formed and officially approved by mid-September.
- With discussions and meetings related to the boundary study scheduled for early fall, it will be important to have your council in place so they can participate.
- Will do elections/assignments in the fall
- SCC trainings will be 9/9, 10/1, and 10/2
- Sonia and Korina will be gone next year =(
